Grey horses are born as some basic colour: chestnut, black or bay. They become white as they grow.

Grey finnhorses have increased within last few years, most of them from the grey work horse stallion E.V. Johtotähti 1726-93Ta. There are only two grey lines in finnhorses, another one (which has produced E.V. Johtotähti as well) origins from "Hintun Talo", in Tuurala in Isokyrö, where is told to have been white horses already in the 19th century! What's interesting, is that the grey colour has preserved in the mare line. The other line goes through stallion H.F. Boris 1701-77R.
